When your child is young reading is very important to their language and literacy development. This is very important in the years from birth to three years. Your child will hear the spoken words, be able to learn the letters and sounds associated with spoken words, teach them to communicate, and will learn to read.
An important place to take your child is to the library. They have reading time and books on practically every subject. If your child is interested in an area, get books on that subject. If they have to go to the doctor, find a book that describes what going to the doctor is all about.
Reading should be a treat for your child, not a chore. By starting early you can make that happen. The best books for children are books that they can hold easily. They should have pictures you can talk about. The books with texture pictures will also get your child more involved.
