Dear Grandpa Robert,
With all the junk food my kids eat in the house, I'm having a real hard time not eating it. I've tried every diet in universe and it only seems to make things worse. Do you have any diet tips that actually work?
No diet works for everyone. I found that for me I have to combine exercise and proper food. I too have junk food around the house but have learned to stay away from them. I’m not perfect because I’ve never met a Vanilla Latte that I don’t love. I have my own machine and I use it as my “junk food”. This is my reward for staying off the other stuff.
I have had the most success with balanced meals. I have a bowl of instant oatmeal in the morning. I have a sandwich with a lot of lettuce for lunch and my evening meal is salad and soup. Since there are so many soups on the market the evening meal is always different.
I also get exercise. I coach youth soccer and spend at least three days a week on the practice field. When soccer is not in season, I walk around the block. I put on my headsets and either listen to music, the news or whatever I feel like. Quite often I walk with my wife and we talk.
Many people find working out at clubs to help. I don’t since I find it hard to force myself to go. The most important thing is to find something that works for you. Just remember you won’t lose weight through food alone. You will have to add exercise to your routine. Have patience and remember you didn’t put the weight on overnight and you won’t lose it overnight.
If you can’t make a program work, visit your doctor and ask for advice. You might be surprised with the information they have available.
